Our Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ webpage

Here you can find information about who we are and what we do.

Our governors represent parents, staff and the local community and our governing board constitution consists of 4 governors elected by parents, 1 governor elected by staff, 1 governor representing the Local Authority (currently vacant), the Headteacher and 8 governors representing the community who are co-opted by the governing board.

All governors are accountable for acting in the best interests of the children in the school and promoting high standards of educational achievement, together with the physical and mental wellbeing of all the children and staff.

Our current governors are:

Parent Governors
Staff Governor
Co-opted Governors
Clerk to the Governors
Melissa King Tracy Horsfall Stephen Thorp                  (Chair of Governors) Emma Dixon
Anna Townson   Lucy Barker

Dr Nadia Khurram

  Andrew Dean

And what do we do?

We have a clearly defined role set out in the school governance regulations. Our three core functions are,

To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school

To hold the school leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff

Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

We meet at least once every half term to do the formal monitoring and approve budgets, staff pay, annual contracts and any changes to policy, the school day, residential trips and school holidays. But we also spend time in school getting to really know the school in order to govern effectively. And we help out with social and fundraising activities, particularly the Governors’ Café at the school fairs.

We don’t though, get involved in the day to day running of the school – that is the responsibility of the headteacher and his senior team. And we do all of this voluntarily – we don’t get paid.

Some of us also help in other ways for example, listening to the children reading,

Driving the minibus on school trips,

or helping with maths, writing and other topics

Governors can be contacted via the school office.
